A Night at Central Station Memphis

Karen Focht February 17, 2020

Enjoy my Photo Journal about Central Station Memphis.

We recently spent the night at Central Station Memphis, the newly renovated train station that has become a Hilton Curio boutique hotel.

This hotel is in the South Main neighborhood of Memphis, a neighborhood just south of downtown Memphis. Within walking distance from Central Station is The Civil Right Museum, Beale Street, a movie theater, The Arcade Restaurant, Earnestine and Hazels (famous dive bar), The Orpheum Theater, an escape room, Cigar bar, a coffee shop, the Rumba Room, Big River Crossing, walking and bike trails along the Mississippi River and many other great Memphis attractions. In the summer there is a farmers market right outside the back of the hotel. If you time it right you can be there for Trolley Night, a street party on South Main the last Friday of every month.

Being a railroad fan, my husband appreciated the fun railroad themes though out the hotel. The train comes into the station right outside the hotel, so if you are traveling to Memphis by train, this is the perfect landing spot. You can arrive and be on foot or an Uber ride away from much of the greatness that Memphis has to offer.

Be sure to watch the movie Mystery Train after you’ve visited. It was filmed in Memphis about 30 years ago. Memphis has changed much since then, but it is an interesting movie set around this area.

This is also a great place for a Memphis music fan. There is a DJ spinning vinyl in the lobby most evenings playing all Memphis music, there is a listening room and the music is also piped into your room! This lobby has become a destination for Happy Hour and weekend nights.

Two chefs that I am most proud to say are from Memphis, Andrew and Michael of Andrew Michaels, have opened a restaurant in Central Station named Bishop. We eat at their restaurants on special occasions and they never disappoint! Amazing food. A bit pricey but well worth it! These guys are world class. We shared much of our meal and with drinks and a tip it was $200.00 We had two cocktails each, their Liver Pate (which is always a must for me), Onion Soup, Salad, Filet, Au Gratin Potato’s, and a layered crape dessert that was to die for.

We stayed in the bridal suite, which had a kitchenette with coffee and living room area. The bathroom was spacious and the room was very nice and clean.

They offered a nice but simple breakfast in the lobby in the morning. If you want something more, The Arcade a classic Memphis breakfast place, is across the street. The Arcade has fun dinners too and great atmosphere and a must stop while visiting Memphis. It does fill up on weekends.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of things to do in Memphis. Check the Memphis Travel and the I love Memphis sites for more details about traveling in Memphis!

Be smart, safe and have fun!
